Hylite, which is comprised of sheets of aluminum bonded to a polypropylene core. Why bond metal to plastic? Because once you mill off a thin strip of aluminum from either side, boom, you’ve got a metal sheet with a living hinge. It was originally developed for non-loadbearing car body parts. However, the combination of considerable flexural stiffness and extreme lightness, also makes it interesting for aviation,  transportation vehicles, autobusses, office supply, ring binders, etc.
